About the Authors…

Richard Fouts is a California playwright. A workshop production of his play, “The Birthday Lottery,” premiered in San Francisco in 2016. Since then, it has been reworked into “First Day in December,” which won First Prize in San Diego’s 2021 Scripteasers short play competition. Several of his 10-minute plays have appeared at short-play festivals around the U.S.

Anita Yellin Simons is a political activist and playwright who combines her love of history and activism in her award-winning plays. Her first play, “Goodbye Memories,” about Anne Frank, was produced by La Jolla JCC in 2011 and was published by YouthPLAYS in 2021. “Heartland,” co-written with Lojo Simon, was produced by MiraCosta College Theater in 2008 and published by YouthPLAYS in 2019. Her play “This We’ll Defend,” about female rape in the military, was produced in December 2021 by American History Theatre, San Diego.

Marielle Vizcarra earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, and Theatre minor from UC San Diego in 2018. Her first play, “Not a Family Gathering,” was produced by UCSD’s Fair Play Theatre Company.  In April 2019, “Diosito Lindo” was produced by TuYo Theatre Company. She is a member of a playwrighting group, Pa’ Letras, where she wrote two plays: “Cafecito” for an online Zoom reading, and “Fiesta en Tiempos de Pandemia” which was made available online. She is a poet and playwright, who occasionally enjoys acting and podcasting. She enjoys portraying stories of family dynamic in Latinx households.
