The 2024 “SCRIPT TEASE OF SHORT PLAYS”
COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The judges for the 19th Annual San Diego “Script Tease of Short Plays” competition have concluded their evaluations and announced the 2024 winning submissions:

1. First Place ($200): “Listen” by Roger M. Henry
2. Second Place ($150): “One Hundred Fifty-Five” by David Silva
3. Third Place ($100): “Last Ride” by Austin K. Steinmetz

Three additional entries were named as Honorable Mentions. Each Honorable Mention will be
awarded $50:

• “The Circle” by Heath Houseman
• “Strangers in the Night” by Richard Fouts
• “Mark’s Shorts” by Roxanne Pratt

The winning plays will be read at one of The Scripteasers upcoming readings. Keep an eye on the e-blasts for announcements!

The 2025 Competition begins January 1, 2025.

We may, at our discretion, alter some parameters of the contest prior to that time so please check below for updates after January 1, 2025.

Six cash prizes:

  • First Place: $200
  • Second Place: $150
  • Third Place: $100
  • $50 each to top three Honorable Mentions

DETAILS

         Open ONLY to playwrights residing in San Diego County.

  1. Short 10-minute or one act plays only. Maximum length: 30 pages. (No musicals or children’s theater.)
  2. Submissions cannot be excerpts from full length plays.
  3. No entry fee. Each entrant may submit up to three short plays.
  4. The top three prizewinners are guaranteed a reading by The Scripteasers. These readings may of necessity be online rather than in person. 
  5. Scripts not selected for cash awards but deemed particularly noteworthy by the judges may be selected for a reading.
  6. Please note: do not submit your script(s) unless you are able to attend the reading in Fall 2025 (on a mutually agreeable Friday evening), be it online or in person. If your play wins, you MUST be “present” in order to receive your prize. (Sorry, no exceptions.)
  7. Entries are judged anonymously.
  8. DEADLINE: July 01, 2025

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: Please submit your entry(s) via email to info@scripteasers.org, with the subject line “SCRIPTEASE 2025” and include the following FOUR items in MS Word or PDF, in FOUR SEPARATE FILES:

  1. Cover page with title of play, writer name and best contact info, including San Diego County snail mail address and email address
  2. Anonymous text of script, including title, in proper script format*
  3. Short playwright bio (approximately 50 words)
  4. One- or two-line summary:  What’s the play about in a nutshell?

Scripteasers will:

  • Confirm receipt of your submission and treat your work with respect.
  • Notify you of the results of the competition in September 2025.
  • Work with selected playwrights to arrange a convenient reading date.

Small Print Department:

  • Competition is open only to playwrights residing in San Diego County.
  • Submissions are limited to the first 100 entries.
  • Ineligible for submission: plays that (A) have had a public reading in person or online, (B) have been previously produced or published, or (C) have been previously submitted to or read at Scripteasers.  
  • Only one cash prize per author.
  • Scripts must follow standard dramatic formatting.*
  • Scripteasers reserves the right not to award a prize if in its opinion no submission is worthy.
